Visiting Children's Health

To promote a healing environment that keeps patients, families, and team members safe, general visitation guidelines are as follows:

• Visiting hours are 7:00 AM-10:00 PM.

• No more than 4 people can be allowed at the bedside at one time (as space permits).

• Up to2 designated caregivers are allowed to stay overnight with the patient, as space permits. There may be some care areas where only 1 caregiver is able to stay due to space constraints. Please note that furniture may not be moved into or out of the room.

• All overnight guests (excluding primary caregivers) must be 18 years of age or older.

• No one under the age of 18 (excluding primary caregivers) will be allowed in the patient room or waiting room areas unsupervised.

• Exceptions to these guidelines will be made on an as-needed basis by unit-specific Nursing leaders in collaboration with other team members.

• No visitors showing signs of exposure to a contagious illness such as chicken pox or any other contagious disease will be permitted.

• Family members, visitors, and parents/guardians must show a government-issued ID (e.g., a driver’s license) to receive a visitor ID. Minors accompanied by an adult are not required to present an ID. Additionally, all individuals entering our facilities will undergo enhanced security screening.

• All visitors must exit the hospital at 10:00 PM. If an unauthorized visitor is still onsite after 10:00 PM, Security Department employees will advise the visitor of this policy and ask for them to leave.

Safety is a top priority at Children’s Health. In the event of an infectious disease surge, our visitation guidelines may change to maintain a healthy, healing environment for our patients, families, and team members.

The following areas may have additional guidelines that differ from our general policy, for the safety of our vulnerable patients. These guidelines include:

Emergency

• No visiting hours specified.

• No more than 2 individuals in a room with the patient at one time.

Surgery

• The surgery areas do not have set hours as surgery can be a 24/7 operation. Therefore, families are allowed at any time.

• No more than 2 individuals are allowed at the bedside in pre-op. An exception may be granted during a transplant case.

• Up to 2 individuals are allowed in PACU. All PACU guests (excluding primary caregivers) must be 18 years of age or older.

Eating Disorders

• Visiting hours are 6:30-8:00 PM Monday through Friday and 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday.

• Patients are allowed 4 visitors during visiting hours. Visitors are restricted to family only (those that live in the same home).

• No designated caregivers are allowed to stay overnight.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

• Up to 3 individuals are allowed at the bedside at one time.

• Up to 4 support persons can be identified and allowed into the unit without the presence of the designated caregivers. Other visitors must be over 18 and accompanied by a designated caregiver.

• Up to 2 designated caregivers are allowed. Only 1 designated caregiver is allowed overnight.

• All visitors must be 3+ years of age.

Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)

• All visitors must be 3+ years of age.

• To protect the privacy of our patients, families will be asked to remain in patient rooms or in the waiting room between 7-7:30 AM and 7-7:30 PM, to allow staff to complete shift handoff.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

• Up to 2 designated caregivers are allowed to stay overnight with the patient.

• All visitors must be 3+ years of age.

• To protect the privacy of our patients, families will be asked to remain in patient rooms or in the waiting room between 7-7:30 AM and 7-7:30 PM, to allow staff to complete shift handoff.

The intensive care units (ICUs) promote a quiet environment 24 hours a day. Please respect the needs of others for a calm and quiet atmosphere in the ICUs.

To provide a restful and safe environment, we ask that visitors follow these guidelines:

• Ask friends and family not to visit if they are sick.

• Please remember to be quiet to help respect the healing of all patients.

• Remind family and friends about any allergies your child has before they bring foods or other items that might trigger allergies.

• Remind visitors to wash their hands when entering patient rooms.

• Discuss plans for visitors with your care team. Remind friends and family that visitors under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

• Smoking and vaping are not allowed on hospital campuses.

• No latex balloons are allowed on campus. Mylar balloons are fine.

• No potted plants are allowed on campus.

• Service animals are allowed on site, but please do not bring pets with you to the hospital. Children’s Health will follow all American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements to address exclusions related to service animals. Please ask your care team for additional details.

• Do not leave charging electronic devices on patient beds.

At Children's Health℠, the safety of our patients, their families, visitors and our team members is our number one priority. We have implemented visitor limitations and processes for all facilities in the Children’s Health℠ system. Please bring your ID and be prepared to submit to a weapons detection and health screenings. Children’s Health will not restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or cultural, economic or educational background. All visitors will enjoy full and equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences.

Your words and behavior matter. Physical and verbal abuse of our staff will not be tolerated.
