Children’s Health℠ Nurse Externship
The Children’s Health℠ Nurse Externship program seeks to create an experience for prelicensure nurses to grow from novice to advanced beginner through a series of didactic and clinical activities focusing on comprehension and application of nursing practice.
Objectives
Discover opportunities to improve patient safety
Differentiate normal verses abnormal assessment findings in a pediatric patient in comparison to an adult patient
Demonstrate inclusive, therapeutic communication with patients and families, considering developmentally appropriate care, preferred language, and assessed learning styles
Develop daily practices for documentation and resource identification
Through participating in this 10-week program, nurse externs develop key knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors to support their transition into the professional nursing role. Externs will be placed in a clinical setting based upon the interview and will have the opportunity to observe in additional areas to learn more about pediatric nursing. Eligibility Requirements
BSN Nursing Students currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing and completed their first semester of nursing school with at least one clinical rotation
Available days, night, weekends, and holidays for the entire 10-week program
Able to work 36-40 hours per week

Compensation and Benefits
The nurse externship is a paid program. Nurse externs are considered:
Contract [TM1] team members
Ineligible for benefits and Paid Time Off (PTO)
